the truth of the matter
In 2009, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC ) decided to make revisions to the guidelines they had established for advertisers regarding their endorsement and testimonial ads to include bloggers. The revised guideline specified, in part, that “the post of a blogger who receives cash or in-kind payment to review a product is considered an endorsement” and, therefore, has to be disclosed as such.
So, with the legalese out of the way, lets talk about ways I may get paid by posting to this blog.
verizon boomer voices disclosure
I am participating in the Verizon Boomer Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.
I may be contacted by a company, or their PR agency, to write a post for a product, company, website, etc. All sponsored posts will be marked as such. This information will be found in a blue box, at the bottom of the post.
It would also be entirely possible that I am contacted by a company, or their PR agency, to include a link in a current post to a product, company, website, etc. All links will be family friendly, and relevant to the blog post in which you’re reading. I will also personally visit every link ever posted on this blog to ensure that my trust with you, the reader, is not compromised.
Should a company or PR agency wish for me to review their products, I will only do so if the product relates to me, my family, and/or my blog. I simply cannot offer to review anything that would not be relevant to me and therefore, not relevant to my readers. However, any and all product reviews will be my opinion. A positive review cannot be purchased. If I loved a product, you will know that. If I didn’t care for a product, you will know that as well. Reviews will be identified in posts with a large blue box at the bottom of the post.
There may be some links or advertisements that are affiliate links. This means that when you click on these links, and make a purchase, I will receive compensation. Affiliate links will be used on products and services that I personally use, recommend, and enjoy.
facebook, tweets, and other social networking
Any posts I make to social networking websites will be at my own discretion. Some social networking updates may be to promote a post that I have been paid for. However, that disclosure will remain solely on the blog post itself.
As a Verizon Boomer Voices Ambassador I am required to write at least one blog post per month and post two times weekly on the social media outlet of my choice. You’ll be able to identify these posts by the use of the following hashtags; #VZWVoices #Boomer.
morals, values, integrity, disclosure
All things which cannot be bought. So, never fear that I am giving you information that I do not believe to be true simply because I have been paid to do so.
If at any time you have a question about my disclosure policy or sponsored content, you are invited to contact me. I will be more than happy to talk with you personally.
