Litter training cats is a no-brainer. Cats are hard wired to dig and bury their waste, so you’re not required to do much beyond giving them a box full of litter. Toilet training your cat isn’t quite as easy. Especially when you’re toilet training multiple cats at a time.
We finished Weeks 11-13 strong. After I reverted back to their original feeding schedule and swapped the flared [...]
We went 10 weeks totally accident and stress free. Then week 11, and the glass bowl, happened. Wa Wa Wa Waaaaaa
I will freely admit, it was totally my fault. I got cocky, and I got lazy.
But, let me start at the beginning.
At the beginning of week 10, I decided that I was only going to feed dry food. I feed our Littles a good cat food and, now that the babies [...]
As you can tell by the housecat hang drooped over the butter tub, Jasmine still isn’t squatting with all fours on the toilet seat, even though she’s clearly running out of real estate.
Mock toilet with altered butter tub.
Smooth As Butta
With weeks 7 & 8 passing without incident, it’s time again to switch it up and add a larger water bowl to their trainer. [...]
Dare I Say It?
I hesitate only out of fear of jinxing it, but toilet training these three has been surprisingly easy. I know the real test will come when I remove the mock toilet, but they seem to be totally unfazed by the process, so far. (crosses fingers and toes)
If you’ve been reading this series on toilet training cats, you’ll know weeks 5&6 went by without incident and, [...]
Born To Be Free
By the beginning of the fifth week, I was comfortable enough in the Littles comfort with their training to, again, allow them free run of the house. I removed the barrier to the upstairs, but still kept the bedroom doors closed.
Same Tune, Different Verse
Mock toilet with 4oz sour cream container.
We started this week as we had the previous weeks with a thorough bathroom cleaning [...]
With the beginning of week three, it was time again to graduate to a larger water container.
This time I used an empty 3 oz. Pounce cat treat container. It was small in diameter, and still fit under their toilet seat, but it was tall enough to keep them from filling it with litter when they dug around. (Lily is an especially aggressive digger, usually flinging litter all over the floor, as well [...]
Week two the Littles were introduced to water.
After dumping their old litter, scrubbing their sitz bath, mock toilet, and the bathroom floor, I refilled their sitz bath with fresh litter and the little test-tube full of water and went through the process of locking us away in the bathroom.
Before I could place each Little, one by one, in the mock toilet to introduce them to the water, they were already [...]
